Rise from the Ashes

November 23rd, 2016-----A date that will forever be etched in the minds of residents and visitors of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and areas surrounding it. A man-made fire began in the Chimney Tops area of the national park. The steep terrain made firefighting efforts difficult. Fast forward 5 days when high winds coupled with extreme drought conditions caused this situation to quickly escalate out of hand. Embers were carried miles away sparking fires throughout Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. To create an even worse situation high winds caused down power lines and transformers to blow creating more fires. This devastation resulted in more than 20,000 acres burnt, 2,460 structures damaged or destroyed, 14 fatalities, and 191 injuries or illnesses.  Yes, the devastation appears insurmountable, but as Mayor Mike Werner said best, "We are Mountain Tough, and We have a Strong, Strong Faith in God"! Gatlinburg Farmers Market

The 2012 season for the Gatlinburg Farmers Market started today May 19, 2012.  The farmers market is in the Alamo parking lot located at 705 East Parkway in Gatlinburg, TN.  The vendors of the farmers market are residents from Sevier and Cocke County who come out every Saturday to provide the residents and visitors with fresh produce and homemade products.  The farmers market is every Saturday, May 19-October 13 from 8:30-11:30 am. The Gatlinburg Farmers Market board is currently in the process of developing a community garden.  They have some land and are looking for a plan to get it started.  They are in need of some items to make this goal an accomplishment.  They are looking for donations for the following items: rakes  hoes shovels post hole diggers leaf rakes landscaping timbers hoses  crossties 6mm plastic 20 x 100 feet seeds fertilizer 5 gallon buckets picks wood for building arbors electric fence wheelbarrow They ar...
