Dollywood Wins Five Awards!

Based in the picturesque Great Smoky Mountains, Dollywood is a 150-acre family adventure park which operates nine months a year (late March through December) and offers more than 40 rides and attractions; award-winning live entertainment featuring country, bluegrass, gospel and mountain music; a dozen crafters authentic to the East Tennessee region, and Wild Eagle, the country’s first wing coaster. A family-friendly vacation destination, Dollywood also includes the 35-acre Dollywood’s Splash Country, voted America’s “Must-See Waterpark.” 

Dollywood hosted the 2012 Amusement Today Golden Ticket Awards on September 7th and 8th.  This awards ceremony is consider the Academy Awards of Theme Parks.  In the end Tennessee's number one attraction collected five of the coveted awards voted on by theme park enthusiasts around the world.  

The new addition to the only wing rider roller coaster in the country, Wild Eagle, has the individuals at Dollywood flying high.  Golden Ticket Award Voters chose Wild Eagle as the top new ride in the world with 30% of the vote. This award was a first for Dollywood in this category.


Dollywood was also voted the "Friendliest" in the world with 46% of the votes. This Award was another first for the theme park in this category who upset 13 time winner Holiday World.  Another first, which goes hand in hand with friendly service, is the best food.  It is difficult to walk through Dollywood without having a craving of something good to eat as the they voted the theme park as having the best food with 27% of the votes.

Dollywood also won Best Shows for the fourth consecutive year (45% of the votes) and Best Christmas Event for the fifth straight year(33% of the votes).




Dollywood also ranked in five additional categories:

  • 3rd Place Best Park
  • 4th Place Best Waterpark (Dolly's Splash Country)
  • 2nd Place Cleanest Park
  • 4th Place Best Water Ride (Mountain Slidewinder)
  • 4th Place Best Landscaping
Dollywood’s Wild Eagle coaster is the highest-placing new-for-2012 coaster on Amusement Today’s annual Best Steel Coaster list while the park’s Thunderhead wooden coaster placed fourth on the Top 50 Best Wooden Coaster rankings.


Calculated from an international poll conducted by Amusement Today, the industry's leading trade publication, the Golden Ticket Awards are the results of a detailed survey sent to a database of experienced and well-traveled amusement park fans around the world in balanced geographical regions. Voters are asked to rate the "bests" in 25 categories such as amusement parks, roller coasters, water rides, shows, landscaping and Halloween and Christmas Events.
