Jodi Derosia, the youngest daughter of Phil and Darlene and younger sister of Phillip, is spearheading a senior project for DECA to raise money and awareness for SafeSpace.

 For those who are not familiar with SafeSpace, it is a non-profit organization that provides safety and support to survivors of domestic violence and their families.  The primary purpose of SafeSpace is to provide emergency shelter, crisis intervention, court advocacy, resource referrals, and counseling to victims of domestic violence.  SafeSpace believes in empowerment.  They are there to provide information share skills, and support victims of domestic violence who choose to be self-reliant and leave their abusive situation. 

 Domestic Violence Is More Common Than You May Think:

  • An act of domestic violence occurs every 12 seconds in the US.
  • Each year in the US, more than 4 million women are battered by their partners.
  • 97-99% of victims are women; 1-3% are men.
  • Battering is the single largest cause of injury to women - more than rapes, accidents, and muggings combined
  • Each year in the US approximately 4,000 women die as a result of domestic violence.
  • Over 50% of men who batter their partners also batter or sexually molest their children.
To help with this cause "The Derosia Team" is helping Jodi sell raffle tickets.

A $5.00 contribution will enter you into a raffle to possibly win a FAMILY WEEKEND VACATION! 100% of proceeds go to SafeSpace.

Tail of the Dragon

Are you looking for an adventure?  Do you have a motorcycle or sports car?  If so then you may want to consider taking a ride to Deals Gap, better known as the "Tail of the Dragon" or just the "Dragon."  The Dragon is a popular and internationally famous destination for driving enthusiasts. The Dragon in Tennessee offers up to 318 curves over 11-miles. The road earned its name from its curves resembling the tail of a dragon.  The stretch bears the street name Tapoco Road in North Carolina and Calderwood Highway in Tennessee and is signed entirely by U.S. Highway 129.  Since part of the road is also the southwestern border of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, there is not development along the 11-mile stretch.  The road travels mostly through forested area.  Along the route there are a few scenic overlooks and pull off points. Sevier County, Tennessee was established September 18, 1794 and covers about 6,000 square miles.  There are three distinct regions in Sevier County, Appalachian Mountain region to the north, Foothills region in the central portion, and the Great Valley of East Tennessee, which stretches 9,200 square miles across Virginia, Georgia, and Tennessee.
