Solar Eclipse!

This August marks an exciting time across the world and our area is in a prime location to commemorate this special event. August 21, 2017, the world will see daylight turn into darkness as the moon overtakes the sun for a brief period of time. What exactly is a solar eclipse? It is a celestial event where the moon will cross over the path of the sun blocking all or part of it for 3 to 4 hours.  This particular eclipse will involve the moon blocking the sun completely for about 2 minutes and 40 seconds. Much of our area is in totality meaning that the sun will be completely blocked and viewers will experience a 360 degree sunset! The path of totality is only about 70 miles wide, so we are lucky to be in that path! Lincoln Beach, Oregon will mark the beginning of this phenomenon at 9:05 am PDT and Charleston, SC will mark the end of the total eclipse at 2:48 pm EDT. However, the lunar shadow will hang around until 4:09 pm EDT. 
There are several events in our area to partake in during this phenomenal event! Make sure to grab some viewing glasses and have a blast!

Several great viewing spots with guided viewing opportunities available at Cades Cove and Oconaluftee Visitor Center. Be prepared for large crowds, heavy traffic, and road closures in the national park

King Family Library
Crafts, Fun Family Solar/Sun activities, and a limited number of solar viewing glasses from 2:00 –3:00 pm

River Rat Tubing Townsend
Tube the Eclipse and Solar Social from 10 am-7pm. $25 gets you an all day tubing pass, special glow in the dark t-shirt, special viewing glasses, and access to the Solar Social following the eclipse. Book online to partake in this event

Tail of the Dragon

Are you looking for an adventure?  Do you have a motorcycle or sports car?  If so then you may want to consider taking a ride to Deals Gap, better known as the "Tail of the Dragon" or just the "Dragon."  The Dragon is a popular and internationally famous destination for driving enthusiasts. The Dragon in Tennessee offers up to 318 curves over 11-miles. The road earned its name from its curves resembling the tail of a dragon.  The stretch bears the street name Tapoco Road in North Carolina and Calderwood Highway in Tennessee and is signed entirely by U.S. Highway 129.  Since part of the road is also the southwestern border of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, there is not development along the 11-mile stretch.  The road travels mostly through forested area.  Along the route there are a few scenic overlooks and pull off points. As Real Estate Agents The Derosia Team likes statistics.  In particular, we like to compare the market from year to year.  We would like to share some comparisons for 2006-2011 to show you how the market has changed. We focused on each individual area of Sevier County and the Volume Sold per area.  Here are a couple visual aids to show the change in the Smoky Mountains. Volume of Sales for 2006-2011 We also compared the total volume sold for Sevier County as a whole through 2006-2011.   So as the economy suggest the market has dropped since 2006 & 2007.  However on a positive note the market for 2008-2011 has been somewhat consistent in the Smoky Mountains with a slow rise in volume.
