Music in the Mountains

A MUSICAL WEEKEND

The first weekend in May brings a weekend long celebration of music heritage. It begins on May 4th at 6 p.m. with the Music in the Mountains spring parade. This parade for decades was known as the Dolly Parton Homecoming Parade. However, she has stepped down. Cal Ripken, Jr. will be the Grand Marshall. The parade will be on the parkway in Pigeon Forge, TN. The focus of this event is the rich musical heritage of our area. There will be more high school marching bands and dance groups then in the past. Also, local theaters will be able to give spectators a glimpse of the entertainment they provide. New this year will be several cold-air balloons. Featured will be the Pajaminals, Daniel the Tiger, and Yogi Bear. These larger-than-life balloons will be sure to be a big hit with the youngest spectators. Also, keep an eye out for a 10-feet baseball representing the Ripken Experience in Pigeon Forge.

The Music in the Mountains weekend would not be complete without some musical entertainment. Enjoy free bluegrass entertainment throughout the city on Friday and Saturday. Be on the watch for some surprise performances that are sure to be a hit! Don't miss two great free concerts. The first one will be on May 4th from 5 p.m.-11 p.m. on the Ole Smoky Moonshine Stage at the Island. Dank Strangers will be headlining this event. The other one will be at the Old Mill Gazebo on May 5th from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Jim Smith will be headlining this concert.

If the Music in the Mountains weekend isn't enough entertainment, be sure to check out the Shine and Dine event on May 5th from 4-8 p.m. in Downtown Sevierville. Experience Moonshine, Music, and Maracas at this Cinco De Mayo inspired event. The evening begins with Rossdafareye's acoustic sound and after the sun sets enjoy all your favorite 80's hits performed by the Breakfast Club.
