Local Favorite - The Wild Plum

Tourist destinations are packed full of restaurants; most of them being the well known chain restaurants that can be dined in all over the country.  However, every city has the smaller restaurants that are usually out of the hustle and bustle of the city life.  These restaurants are  local favorites and mom and pop establishments that don't make it into the guidebooks and vacation brochures.  Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, and the other surrounding areas of the Smoky Mountains have several well-kept secrets that the locals love.

These establishments in the Smoky Mountains are often a great place to go and learn about the local culture, as well as eat some of the best local food.  Most of the establishments have more reasonable prices than the chain restaurants in town.  The service is above and beyond in these family owned establishments and the food is worth coming back for over and over again.

Because there are so many local favorites we will pick a featured restaurant each month and share it with our readers.  This months featured restaurant is The Wild Plum Tea Room.

The Wild Plum Tea Room is open from March 1 through Mid-December.  When the season begins for Wild Plum they will open Monday-Saturday 11am-3pm.  The Wild Plum is an excellent way to begin your day if you plan to spend the day in the Arts and Crafts Community.

The Wild Plum is a log cabin Austrian style tearoom which serves handmade gourmet lunch daily.  The idea for the "Wild Plum" comes from the mountains of Austria's tea houses.   People in the mountain ranges of Austria would gather daily, to share stories and eat anything that was made fresh from the day.  It was a friendly experience so it brought them back time and time again.

This is what has inspired the Gatlinburg tea room. A place where guest can come, relax, eat good food, and mingle with others all while enjoying excellent service.

The recipes used in the Wild Plum are all handed down from grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, local crafters, neighbors, and artist of the Wild Plum Family who start early every morning to prepare the menu fresh for the patrons to enjoy. They prepare your lunch with vegetables straight from the garden.

The Wild Plum is a fantastic place to enjoy lunch in a friendly, relaxing environment before heading out to shop the Arts and Crafts Community.
