Way Back When!

Sevier County is an ever changing area of attractions, hotels, restaurants, and shops. It seems as if there is something new and exciting every day! Check out this blog post for some places of long ago that used to be a favorite for many!

Porpoise Island: The area that is now the Island was the home of a popular show straight out of Hawaii. In the 70s and 80s visitors could enjoy hula dancers, seal and porpoise shows, trained parrots and more.

Rebel Railroad: Before Dollywood days, visitors could enjoy Rebel Railroad. This confederate-themed attraction included a steam train ride through the mountain countryside. Rebel Railroad was in operation from 1961 through 1970. It later became Goldrush Junction, then Goldrush, and finally Silver Dollar City before becoming Dollywood.

Ogle's Waterpark: The area of Walden's Landing was once home to a popular summer attraction. Until 2003, those looking for a way to escape the heat could enjoy multiple water slides, a wave pool, and other water attractions.

Archie Campbell's Hee Haw Village: In the late 60's visitors could enjoy relics from Archie Campbell at this miniature theme park

Before all of our popular grocery stores, residents got their goods from a rolling store!

Mountain Ocean Wave Pool: In the heart of Pigeon Forge visitors could swim in the ocean while spending time in the mountains. They could also enjoy an ice cream shop, fast foods, a candy store, and an arcade.

Magic World: Until the 1990's, families enjoyed a theme park from a simpler era. Early animatronics were used in rides, such as, the magic carpet ride. The attraction featured multiple dinosaur statues, rides for the whole family, and entertaining shows. The map shows ride offerings from 1991.

Carbo's Police Museum: Opened in 1976, this relic museum featured a private collection of authentic police memorabilia.

Tommy Bartlett's Water Circus: This short lived show was only open from 1977 to the early 1980s. This ski, sky, and stage show was advertised as the "Greatest Show on H2O".
