Happy Easter!
Easter is less than a week away! While Easter always occurs on a Sunday, when it occurs each year varies greatly. The Easter date is set around the time of the March Equinox. According to the Bible, Jesus Christ's death and resurrection occurred around the time of the Jewish Passover, which was celebrated on the first full moon following the vernal equinox.
This soon led to Christians celebrating Easter on different dates. At the end of the 2nd century, some churches celebrated Easter on the day of the Passover, while others celebrated it on the following Sunday. In 325CE the Council of Nicaea established that Easter would be held on the first Sunday after the first full moon occurring on or after the vernal equinox. From that point forward, the Easter date depended on the ecclesiastical approximation of March 21 for the vernal equinox.
In a nutshell, Easter is the first Sunday following the first full moon after March 21st!
Check out these cool tips to dye Easter Eggs
that will impress everyone!!!
This activity is perfect for older kids. Once you have made your hard boiled eggs, pop them in the oven at 350 degrees. Once they are nice and hot, remove them and touch crayola crayons to them. The wax will melt and drip all over them, creating some cool designs!
Use watercolor paints to decorate your eggs. For an added amount of pizzazz, decorate them with watercolor pencils!
Use electrical tape to create some interesting designs on your eggs. Simply place electrical tape and then dye the egg. Let it dry and make a new pattern with the tape and repeat.
Dye the eggs with Cool Whip to create a cool mosaic pattern. Simply boil your eggs and let cool. Spread a layer of cool whip about 1/2 inch deep in a shallow pan. Use food coloring and make drops of food coloring across the cool whip. Remember not to place them too close together or you will wind up with brown. Use a skewer or toothpick to swirl the colors through the cool whip. Roll the egg across the mixture and place on cardboard or in an egg carton to dry. It takes about 10-15 minutes. Then, wipe all the excess off and marvel at your creation!
